Patna: The Bihar government is set to introduce foreign language courses in its technical institutions. Engineering and polytechnic students will now be taught German and French languages. This initiative is being launched with the aim of enhancing students’ employment prospects abroad.
Focus on Youth Empowerment through Economic Solutions
Students from 15 government engineering colleges in Bihar will now learn German and French. Under the Chief Minister’s ambitious ‘Saat Nischay – 1’ programme, particularly the ‘Economic Solution through Youth Empowerment’ initiative, emphasis is being laid on the importance of learning foreign languages in government engineering and polytechnic institutions across all districts.
Students to Learn German and French
The Department of Science, Technology, and Technical Education (DSTTE) of the Bihar Government has launched a new initiative to teach French and German in 15 government engineering colleges. The programme was inaugurated via video conferencing by Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena.
Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena praised the initiative and suggested that, considering the demands of the global market, training in the Japanese language should also be introduced in the future. He further directed that student exchange programmes in collaboration with international universities should be initiated at the earliest to help students gain global exposure.
This move is a significant step under the Chief Minister’s ambitious plan to prepare the youth for global opportunities. Knowledge of foreign languages like French, German, and Japanese will open doors to international prospects for engineering students, broaden global opportunities, enhance international communication, and foster professional development.

Amrit Lal Meena lauded the efforts of the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, stating that the progress made in the field of technical education over the past ten years has been commendable. He also extended his best wishes to Department Secretary Dr Pratima and her team.
Students Engaged in Conversations in French and German
During the virtual inauguration, principals, faculty members, and students from all 38 government engineering colleges across the state participated from their respective modern language laboratories. Several students demonstrated their skills and the programme’s effectiveness by conversing in French and German.
Soon to be Implemented in All 38 Engineering Colleges
The initiative received overwhelmingly positive feedback from all stakeholders. It became clear that students are now better prepared to compete at the global level. Following the success of this pilot project, the department aims to implement it in all 38 government engineering colleges across the state.
Key Participants
The inauguration programme was attended by DSTTE Secretary Dr Pratima, Additional Secretary-cum-Director Ahmed Mahmood, and other senior officials. During the event, Dr Pratima delivered a detailed presentation outlining the project’s objectives, implementation strategy, and future plans. After the successful execution of this pilot project, it will soon be rolled out to all 38 government engineering colleges in Bihar.
