Patna: A shocking incident has come to light from the Digha police station area in Patna, where two minor schoolgirls attempted to rob a jewellery shop in a dramatic, film-style plan. However, the quick thinking of the shopkeeper and the timely response of local residents foiled their attempt. Both girls have now been detained by the police.
According to reports, the two girls arrived at a jewellery shop in the Digha area posing as customers. They first asked the shop owner, Rajesh Kumar, to show them some ornaments and later requested to see gold earrings. When the shopkeeper placed the items on the counter, they tried to distract him further by asking to see rings.
As the shopkeeper turned to fetch the rings, one of the girls took out an intoxicating spray from her bag and sprayed it on his face. Despite the sudden attack, Rajesh Kumar remained alert. He quickly secured the jewellery, rushed out of the shop, and raised an alarm.
Hearing his cries, local residents gathered at the scene. The sight of the crowd frightened the girls. While one managed to escape, the other was caught by locals, who also assaulted her in anger. Upon receiving information, Digha police reached the spot and took the detained girl into custody.
“I was very frightened during the incident. The spray was quite dangerous, but timely help from people prevented a major crime. There has been no loss,” said Rajesh Kumar, the shop owner.
Later that night, police conducted a raid and deatined the second girl who had fled. During questioning, both minors revealed that they were driven by financial difficulties, which led them to plan the robbery. Police said the girls are coaching students who have passed their intermediate examinations. One is a resident of the Kurji area, while the other belongs to the Diara region.
Digha police station in-charge, Avinash Kumar, said that both minors are being interrogated. “Initial investigation suggests financial distress as the motive. We are also trying to find out if anyone else was involved. Every aspect of the case is being thoroughly examined,” he said.
He added that information has also emerged about a criminal background linked to the father of one of the girls. “At present, all angles are under investigation,” he said.
