Patna: Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial venture, the action-comedy Vibe, collected Rs 1.50 crore nett in India on its opening day, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The film released in theatres on Friday, September 18, 2026, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s crime thriller Daayra, which earned an estimated Rs 90 lakh nett on the same day.
The opening figures place Vibe ahead of Daayra, though both films recorded modest starts at the domestic box office. Vibe was screened across 3,194 shows in India and registered an overall Hindi occupancy of 13.38 per cent on Friday.
Vibe’s Day One Performance
Vibe’s occupancy showed a gradual increase through the day. Morning shows opened at around 6 per cent occupancy, rising to 11.31 per cent in the afternoon before reaching approximately 13.92 per cent in the evening. Night shows recorded the strongest turnout at 22.31 per cent.
Among major cities, Delhi-NCR recorded the highest occupancy for Vibe at around 13 per cent across 440 shows. Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad followed with approximately 11 per cent occupancy each. Mumbai also registered around 11 per cent occupancy, with the film running across 328 shows in the city.
The film matched the first-day collection of Kemmu’s directorial debut, Madgaon Express, which also earned Rs 1.50 crore India net on its opening day in 2024 before finding a wider audience later in its theatrical run and on streaming.
Vibe stars Kemmu alongside Sparsh Shrivastava, Preity Zinta and debutant Vanshika Dhir. The plot follows two friends, Hardik and Bugs, whose ordinary lives are disrupted when they become involved in a high-stakes mission connected to Indian intelligence agencies. The film carries an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification and has a runtime of approximately two hours and 26 minutes.
Daayra’s Opening Day Figures
Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar, collected an estimated Rs 90 lakh India nett on its opening day. The film was screened across 2,238 shows in India and recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 11.65 per cent on Friday.
The crime thriller was released in both Hindi and Malayalam, though the Hindi version accounted for the bulk of its opening-day earnings. The Malayalam release contributed only a marginal amount to the overall India net collection.
The opening marks the lowest first-day collection of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s career, falling below her previous low set by The Buckingham Murders, which collected Rs 1.15 crore net on its opening day in 2024. Daayra reportedly carries a production budget of around Rs 55 crore, meaning its first-day theatrical earnings account for only a small fraction of its reported cost.
Daayra stars Kareena Kapoor Khan as DCP Ajooni Kohli and Prithviraj Sukumaran as DCP Raman Kumar. The story follows two police officers who find themselves in a moral conflict following a controversial encounter killing linked to a rape and murder case. The film also features Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, Biswapati Sarkar and Jitendra Joshi in supporting roles.
Box Office Comparison
Vibe’s opening day collection of Rs 1.50 crore surpassed Daayra’s Rs 90 lakh by approximately Rs 60 lakh. Both films faced competition from other releases already in theatres, including Mirzapur The Movie and the biopic Hanuman Ansh, which continued to draw audiences.
Vibe also opened ahead of two other recent Bollywood releases. Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi’s Ek Din earned Rs 1.15 crore on its opening day, while Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga also collected Rs 1.15 crore on Day 1.
Despite the slow start, Vibe’s first-day figure represents the 19th highest opening of 2026 for a Hindi film. Daayra’s opening ranks lower on the same list.
Critical Reception
Vibe received mixed to positive reviews from critics. The Indian Express rated the film 3 stars, describing it as ‘a goof-off, and that’s what makes all the difference.’ The Times of India gave it 3.5 out of 5, noting that ‘the screenplay and sheer entertainment quotient elevate a fairly basic premise.’
Daayra also received mixed reviews. News18 Showsha gave the film 3 stars, stating that the film ‘manages to turn its gaze towards the uneasy line between revenge and justice while also examining media trials.’ The Hindustan Times rated it 3 stars, observing that ‘the first half is deliberate rather than gripping’ while praising its willingness to let the investigation unfold.
Both films will now depend on weekend momentum to improve their theatrical prospects. Trade analysts will be monitoring Saturday and Sunday collections to determine whether either film can build sustained audience turnout.
