Patna: In a major boost to chess in Bihar, a seven-day high-level training camp for promising players will be organised from July 13 to July 19, 2026 under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association.Sharing details of the initiative, the association’s secretary Dharmedndra Kumar said the camp is being conducted with support from the All India Chess Federation. Renowned Grandmaster Pravin Thipsay has confirmed his participation and will lead the specialised training sessions.
During the camp, Grandmaster Thipsay will mentor talented players from Bihar, helping them understand advanced strategies and finer aspects of the game. His guidance is expected to significantly enhance the players’ skills and competitive performance.
A total of 25 top players from across the state will be selected for the programme. To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, the association has constituted a high-level selection committee. The committee includes experienced experts Vipal Subhashi, Sudhir Kumar Sinha and Saurav Roop as members.

The committee will recommend the appropriate age categories for the camp and establish key selection criteria to identify the most promising and emerging players in Bihar.
The final venue of the training camp will be announced shortly. At present, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Rajgir and Gaya are being considered as possible locations, with one of these cities expected to host the camp.
Announcing the initiative, All Bihar Chess Association President Diljeet Khanna expressed confidence that, under the guidance of Grandmaster Thipsay, Bihar’s players will shine at national and international levels in the coming years.
