Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has revealed in its charge sheet that the question paper for the TRE-2 exam, held in December 2023, was leaked prior to the examination. This exam saw 96,823 candidates pass, with results announced in late December. The discovery came during the investigation of the TRE-3 paper leak on 15 March 2024, uncovering the involvement of a gang led by Sanjeev Mukhiya and his family.

The EOU’s investigation revealed that during the transportation of the TRE-2 question papers, a vehicle driven by Shivakant Singh of Bhojpur was intercepted at Sari Toll Tax. Six to seven individuals, arriving in two vehicles marked as government cars, removed a box of question papers from the pickup van and transferred it to another vehicle. The papers were later returned to the van at Ramdayalu Chowk, Muzaffarpur, before being delivered to the Motihari District Magistrate’s office. Driver Shivakant was paid ₹5,000, while vehicle owner Ramnivas Chaudhary received ₹8,000 for facilitating the leak.

The TRE-3 exam followed a similar pattern. The gang used a pickup van from DTDC to transport the papers, which were leaked by stopping the vehicle at a dhaba in Nagarnausa. Driver Rambhavan Paswan was paid ₹7,000 for his role. The mastermind, Sanjeev Mukhiya, along with his son, Dr Shiv, coordinated the operation, leaking question papers for multiple Bihar examinations.

Dr Shiv, previously arrested in the constable recruitment paper leak case, orchestrated the TRE-3 leak from jail. He directed associates, including Rahul, to erase evidence by formatting their mobile phones. The leaked papers were sent to coaching institutes to solve the questions, which were then shared with candidates for memorisation.

The EOU has arrested over 266 individuals in connection with the case and is actively searching for three coaching operators linked to the TRE-3 leak. The exposure of the TRE-2 paper leak has sparked outrage among teacher candidates, further intensifying the scandal surrounding Bihar’s examination system.
