Patna: Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Nishant Kumar on Wednesday chaired a key organisational meeting at the party’s state headquarters, Karpoori Auditorium, in Patna. The meeting brought together district presidents and block-level leaders from Kishanganj, Purnia, Purnia Urban, Katihar, Katihar Urban, Araria, Bhagalpur, Bhagalpur Urban and Banka, covering the Purnia and Bhagalpur divisions.
The discussions focused on strengthening the party at the grassroots level, with extensive deliberations on enhancing organisational effectiveness. Among those present were state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, Deputy Leader of the ruling party in the Legislative Council Lalan Kumar Sarraf, Chief Whip Sanjay Kumar Singh alias ‘Gandhiji’, along with Anil Kumar, Dr Amardeep, and Vasudev Kushwaha.
Addressing the gathering, Kumar emphasised the need to carry forward party and organisational work efficiently under the guidance of JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar. He stressed continuous monitoring of welfare schemes aimed at the poor, Dalits, backward and extremely backward communities to ensure benefits reach the last person in society. “Party workers are the real strength and foundation of the organisation,” he said.
Highlighting governance achievements, he noted that after Nitish Kumar assumed office in 2005, law and order was given top priority. At that time, Bihar had only 817 police stations, a number that has now risen to over 1,380. Police vehicles have increased from around 4,000 to over 12,000, while the force strength has grown from 42,000 to more than 1.5 lakh. These efforts, he said, have helped eliminate fear and establish an atmosphere of peace and harmony, enabling steady progress in the state.

Kumar further pointed out that 50 per cent reservation for women was implemented in Panchayati Raj institutions in 2006 and in urban local bodies in 2007. Since 2016, women have also been granted 35 per cent reservation in all government jobs, strengthening their participation. More than 15 million women associated with the ‘Jeevika’ programme are now becoming self-reliant through various livelihood activities.
He added that, under the principle of “development with justice”, several welfare schemes for marginalised communities have been successfully implemented. Initiatives such as the Student Credit Card scheme, uniform and bicycle schemes have proved transformative in the education sector. Health infrastructure has been strengthened, and an extensive road network has been developed, reducing travel time to Patna from any part of the state to four to five hours. Additionally, uninterrupted power supply of 22 to 23 hours is now being ensured even in remote rural areas.
Concluding his address, Kumar urged party workers to take the achievements and development work of Nitish Kumar to the masses and continue working under his leadership to take the organisation to new heights.
