Advocate Vikas Sharma Honoured for Advocacy and Social Work in Nalanda

By Neeraj Kumat
Patna: Vikas Sharma, a dedicated young advocate known for his relentless efforts to support the poor, exploited, and underprivileged, was honoured in his home district of Nalanda, famously known as the land of knowledge. Practising law at the Patna High Court, Vikas also serves as a legal advisor for BAPD, an organisation recognised by the Governments of India and Bihar. His deep commitment to social work has earned him admiration and respect across the state.

Vikas consistently responds to appeals from the underprivileged, whether it involves facilitating treatment at government hospitals in Patna or providing legal assistance. Recently, a disabled individual from Harnaut block sought his help, stating that his ration card application had been pending for two years. Vikas promptly contacted the Block Development Officer (BDO) and, after a firm discussion highlighting the officer’s legal responsibilities, secured a resolution.

In another case from Ara district, Vikas intervened on behalf of a woman who had been assaulted and humiliated. Despite two months passing without legal action, Vikas reached out to the local Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), urging immediate action. The DSP assured him that the matter would be addressed promptly.

Vikas’s dedication to social justice has earned him numerous accolades, including recognition from prominent figures such as former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, former Deputy Chief Minister Tar Kishore Prasad, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, and esteemed educators like Khan Sir and Rehman Sir. Recently, he received the prestigious Ashoka Award at the Bihar Samman Samaroh 2024.

Vikas dreams of making the RPWD Act 2016 accessible to all, empowering individuals to fight for their rights and dignity through legal channels. His unwavering commitment to justice continues to inspire and uplift countless lives in Bihar.
