Patna: The body of 21-year-old mason Nitish Kumar from Pipra village, under the jurisdiction of Ramakrishna Nagar police station, was found in a waterlogged field in the Sheikhpura area in Patna on Thursday, after he had been missing for six days. The discovery led to outrage among the family and villagers. The location where the body was found was overgrown with bushes, which had prevented its discovery for several days.
In protest, the enraged family and villagers placed the body on the New Bypass in front of the Sorangpur Temple in Ramakrishna Nagar, blocking the road with bamboo sticks and setting fires. They accused the police of negligence in handling the matter.
The family of the deceased claimed that Nitish Kumar had gone to visit the Dussehra fair on his bike on the evening of Dashami and had been missing ever since. They reported the incident and filed a complaint against some local boys from Pipra village. According to the family, the police had questioned some suspects but released them shortly after. Patna Sadar-2 DSP Satyakam, Parsa Bazar SHO Maneka Rani, Ramakrishna Nagar SHO RK Singh, and police officers from neighbouring stations, accompanied by the Rapid Action Force, arrived at the scene to manage the situation. The family and villagers alleged that some local troublemakers from Pipra village were involved in a conspiracy to murder Nitish and had disposed of his body in the overgrown area.
After an hour, at around 9 pm, the villagers eventually lifted the blockade.
Reports indicate that Nitish Kumar, son of Jitender Ravidas from Pipra village, had left to visit the Dussehra fair on his bike at approximately 6 pm on 12th October. His mobile phone was switched off afterwards, and he never returned home. The following day, his family searched for him but could not locate him, leading them to file a missing person’s report at Ramakrishna Nagar police station. The police were still investigating when his body was discovered in the waterlogged field in Sheikhpura on Thursday evening. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making it difficult to determine the cause of death. His bike was also recovered near the scene. Nitish was the eldest of two brothers.
Patna Sadar DSP-2, Satyakam, stated that Nitish had been missing for six days and assured that those responsible would be arrested and prosecuted through a speedy trial.
