Bhagalpur: In a tragic incident total six children three boys and three girls drowned in a pond at Bhirkhurd panchayat of Udadih village of Bhagalpur district in Bihar on Monday morning.
The incident occurred while children were taking bath in pond. As per information available form locals, the victims all residents of ward no 27 of Sultanganj Nagar Parishad had been to the pond located in Teriyata Bahiyar of Udadih village to take bath in view of Karma Dharma festival scheduled on Tuesday this week.
The locals said more than a dozen children of the locality had gone to the pond for bathing in early hours of the day. The pond full to the brim at present, the victims in course of bathing somehow went deep into the water and drowned.
The relatives of the victims who came to know about the incident quite late after the incident occurred subsequently reached the spot and managed to fish out bodies of deceased with help of local people.
The victims brought to Sultanganj referral hospital after recovery of their bodies were declared dead by doctors at hospital. The tragic death of children has sent a shock wave in the area.
The victims have been identified as Jyoti Kumari daughter of Harendra Mandal, Amit Kumar son of Balmiki Mandal, Ayush Kumar son of Binod Mandal, Rahul Kumar son of Puran Mandal, Puja Kumari daughter of Puran Mandal and Vikas Kumar son of Ratan Kumar.
Meanwhile an official enquiry has been initiated to find out cause of the accident. Expressing sympathy with bereaved families, the district administration has assured all help to families of victims as per provisions of rule book.
