Patna: Bihar Minister Shreyasi Singh on Monday afternoon took charge of responsibilities in the Sports Department of the Government of Bihar at Vikas Bhavan, New Secretariat, Patna, and participated in departmental review meetings.
On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Dr B Rajender and Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority Raveendran Sankaran, along with several senior officials, extended a formal welcome to her.
During the meeting, Singh reviewed the functioning of Eklavya Centres operating across the state and stressed the need to prioritise Bihar’s sports policy. She stated that a robust sports policy forms the foundation for the holistic development of sports in the state and that its effective implementation would provide a fresh direction to Bihar’s sporting culture.
She emphasised that preparing athletes at the grassroots level should be the department’s primary objective. To achieve this, she underlined the need to develop sports infrastructure in every district in the form of “District Centres of Excellence”, ensuring that local talent receives better training and opportunities. She added that if Bihar is to emerge as a sports hub, a strong district-level sports framework must be established.

Singh also held detailed discussions on various departmental issues and reviewed matters that had arisen during her absence from official responsibilities.
Highlighting future strategies, she said that promoting sports culture in Bihar would require the adoption of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In this regard, she called for the preparation of comprehensive guidelines to facilitate the practical implementation of PPP initiatives across the state.
