Patna: Amid an ongoing crackdown on irregularities in competitive examinations in Bihar, Patna Police have achieved a major breakthrough by exposing an alleged gang involved in defrauding aspirants under the pretext of securing jobs through manipulation of banking examinations. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the Danapur area, where the accused were reportedly contacting young candidates and promising guaranteed success in competitive exams and employment opportunities. One suspect was initially detained, and based on information obtained during interrogation, four others were subsequently arrested.
During the raid, police recovered 22 blank cheques, various academic certificates, mark sheets, admit cards, and several other suspicious documents. Investigating agencies are now working to determine the intended use of these materials and the number of candidates who may have fallen victim to the racket.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shivam Dhakad stated that the first arrest was made based on intelligence inputs, leading to the apprehension of Praveen Shankar alias Golu, a resident of Usri Shikarpur (Shahpur). Following intensive questioning, further raids were conducted at other locations, resulting in the arrest of four additional members of the gang.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Karan Kumar (Ibrahimpur, Bihta), Raj Kumar (Digha), Amit Chaudhary (Mughalpura Khanjekalan), and Manoj Kumar (Phulwarisharif). Police have also seized eight mobile phones, 11 ATM cards, and other incriminating materials from their possession.
According to ASP Dhakad, the gang also targeted parents of government job aspirants, offering false assurances of guaranteed success in examinations. Deals worth several lakh rupees per candidate were reportedly finalised. As a form of security for pending payments, the gang would retain original academic documents and signed blank cheques from the candidates.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused lured aspirants preparing for competitive exams with promises of easy employment. A case has been registered at Rupaspur police station, and a detailed investigation into the gang’s network and modus operandi is underway.
The development comes at a time when multiple cases involving exam mafias and solver gangs are being uncovered across Bihar. Recently, 30 individuals were arrested in connection with irregularities in the NEET-UG re-examination, including dummy candidates and biometric fraud. Similar cases involving impersonation and exam malpractice have also surfaced in police recruitment examinations.
Authorities believe that such gangs are exploiting the growing competition in competitive exams. Police have assured that strict action against such criminal networks will continue.
