Patna: A Patna civil court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Khan Global Studies founder Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, and bail to his two bodyguards, Pradeep Kumar and Talebar Singh, in connection with the high-profile Patna coaching centre violence case. The court also granted relief to six accused in the case, marking a significant development in the legal proceedings arising from the June 2 incident.
Confirming the order, counsel for Faisal Khan, Arvind Kumar Mauwar, said the civil court had passed its final order on the anticipatory bail application of Khan Sir and the petitions filed by his bodyguards. He said the court granted bail to all the accused concerned, while legal proceedings in the case would continue in accordance with the law.
The case relates to an incident on June 2, when Khan Sir’s coaching institute in Patna was allegedly attacked by a group of people. The coaching centre was reportedly vandalised, stones were hurled at the premises and security personnel posted outside were assaulted. Khan Sir had alleged that the attackers also opened fire during the violence.
Police launched an investigation after reaching the spot. However, CCTV footage examined by investigators did not confirm any firing by the attackers. Khan Sir later said the confusion and panic during the incident made it difficult to ascertain what had happened.
Khan Sir accused rival coaching operator Raushan Anand and his supporters of carrying out the attack. Police registered a case against Raushan Anand, his supporters and his brother, Prince Yadav, and subsequently arrested Anand. Days later, Prince Yadav died in Nepal. While authorities attributed the death to a brain-related illness, Raushan Anand alleged that Khan Sir was responsible for his brother’s death.
The investigation took a new turn after CCTV footage from the coaching premises allegedly showed one of Khan Sir’s bodyguards firing a weapon. Based on the footage, police registered a separate case against the two bodyguards. Investigators claimed one of the guards told police he had fired on Khan Sir’s instructions, following which a case was also registered against Khan Sir and raids were conducted to arrest him.
On June 9, the civil court admitted Khan Sir’s anticipatory bail plea and stayed his immediate arrest. After several hearings, the court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Khan Sir and bail to his two bodyguards, bringing a key phase of the legal battle to a close.
