Dense Fog Causes Multi-Vehicle Collision on Mahatma Gandhi Bridge, Traffic Severely Disrupted

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: Bihar continues to reel under the effects of severe cold and dense fog. A multi-vehicle collision on the Mahatma Gandhi Bridge late on Sunday night has exacerbated the situation, causing significant traffic disruption. The accident, involving three large vehicles, occurred near pillar number 7 on the Hajipur side of the bridge.

As a result, traffic has been severely affected, with a long jam persisting on the bridge for over nine hours. While small vehicles are gradually being allowed to move, larger vehicles remain stationary, leaving many passengers stranded. Some have resorted to crossing the bridge on foot due to the prolonged delay.

Inspector Mukesh Kumar of the Patna Traffic Police stated that the collision has brought traffic to a standstill on both lanes connecting to Hajipur. He added that congestion has extended to areas near Zero Mile, Badi Pahadi, Chhoti Pahadi, and the Bairiya bus stand. Efforts are underway to clear the jam, but it may take several more hours to restore normal traffic flow.

Traffic police personnel are actively working to remove the obstructing vehicles, allowing some movement for smaller vehicles. However, many commuters are opting for alternate routes or choosing to travel on foot to escape the gridlock. Inspector Mukesh Kumar emphasised that clearing the jam will require more time due to the severity of the incident and the dense fog conditions.

This incident highlights the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions and the need for caution while travelling during periods of reduced visibility.
