Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday inaugurated ‘Aagaaz 2026’, an induction and orientation programme for students at the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The Chief Minister honoured six gold medallists who graduated in 2026 and extended his best wishes to students newly admitted to the 2026 batch. He also launched the institute’s Learning Management System. Wishing the newly admitted students well, Mr Choudhary said Bihar’s youth had no shortage of talent. What was needed was to provide them with quality education, modern skills and opportunities at the global level.
Addressing the gathering, Samrat Choudhary said he was pleased to attend the Aagaaz 2026 programme. “This is an important day for all of you,” he said. The Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute is an important part of Bihar’s educational heritage. Around 1,600 students are currently studying at the institute, and work will be undertaken to increase its capacity to 3,000 students. Admission to the institute is based on performance in competitive examinations such as CAT and MAT. He said that under the concept of ‘Ganga to Global’, students from Bihar would be introduced to the working methods, knowledge and strengths of reputed institutions in India and abroad. Around 100 students would be taken on a month-long exposure visit during each academic session. Initiatives were also being taken to provide students with opportunities to learn from good institutions abroad. To address the shortage of land at the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change, the one acre of land proposed by the Building Construction Department would be allotted to the institute.
The Chief Minister said the government was taking important steps in the field of education. Degree colleges had been established in all blocks. Classes had already begun from August 10, with teachers joining the 211 degree colleges launched on July 15. A total of 551 model schools had also been started. From August 15, students would be able to continue online studies and ask teachers questions even after 11 pm, helping them prepare better for examinations.
Samrat Choudhary said young people would play an important role in restoring global recognition to the glorious history and heritage of Bihar’s Magadh region. He urged Bihar’s youth to remain connected with their birthplace wherever they lived in India or abroad and contribute to the state’s prosperity. He said that as part of the development of new townships, 10 acres of land would be provided to LNMI for establishing a satellite campus. A Centre of Excellence in AI and a Centre for Urban Policy and Governance would also be established at the institute. A Quantum Computing Centre would be set up as well. The aim was to provide students with better opportunities for study and research in modern policymaking, urban development, administration and governance.
Samrat Choudhary said the world was changing rapidly and technology was playing an increasing role in every field. The use of AI was also growing quickly. He said significant work had been carried out in Bihar on flood management. The river-linking programme was launched under the leadership of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “We have asked for the Kosi, Narayani and Ganga river basins to be improved so that better water management can be achieved,” he said. He said improved water management had resulted in 4.4 million hectares of irrigated land in Bihar. A 200-km Marine Drive was being developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode by 2030, with an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore. He said industrial development was essential to make Bihar prosperous. “Study well. If you want to progress in life, you must receive a good education. Make every effort to fulfil your dreams,” he said, extending his best wishes to all the students for a bright future.
During the programme, Dr N. Vijay Lakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department and Director of the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change, welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting him with an angavastram and a memento. A short film based on the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change was also screened during the programme.
The programme was also addressed by Urban Development and Housing-cum-Information Technology Minister Nitish Mishra, Dr N. Vijay Lakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department and Director of the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change, and Prof Sharad Kumar Yadav, Vice-Chancellor of Aryabhatta Knowledge University. Three students newly admitted to the 2026 batch also shared their views.
Chief Minister’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Higher Education Department Secretary Rajiv Roushan, other senior officials, and teachers and students of the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change were present at the programme.
