Patna: Amid mounting speculation in Bihar’s political circles, Union Minister Chirag Paswan has issued a significant clarification, stating unequivocally that he is not in the race for the Chief Minister’s post. He remarked that while the “face” of the government may change, the coalition formula will remain intact.
The political buzz intensified following reports that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar could step down after becoming a Rajya Sabha MP. Sources suggest he may resign on April 14, with indications of preparations underway as belongings are gradually being moved from his official residence in Patna.
Activity within the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) escalated on Saturday morning when its executive president Sanjay Jha and senior minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary visited the Chief Minister’s residence. According to sources, the two-hour meeting involved deliberations over the composition of a new Cabinet, with particular emphasis on inducting younger faces.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also stepped up its activities. A crucial party meeting is scheduled in Patna, to be attended by Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde. Discussions are expected to focus on selecting a new Chief Ministerial face and finalising the strategy for government formation.
Political rhetoric has also intensified. JD(U) leader Ashok Choudhary targeted Tejashwi Yadav, remarking that while one leader is moving from the Chief Minister’s post to the Rajya Sabha, no such precedent exists within his family. He further added that when Lalu Prasad Yadav was imprisoned, Rabri Devi was made Chief Minister, and predicted further weakening of the RJD in the coming days.
Paswan’s categorical statement distancing himself from the Chief Ministerial race has added a new dimension to the evolving political scenario, further intensifying speculation over Bihar’s leadership transition.
