Patna: Riya Kumari, a women’s kabaddi player from Bihar, has been selected for the second national coaching camp of the Indian women’s kabaddi team, organised as part of preparations for the 20th Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Riya has been included in the list of probable players for the left corner position in the Indian squad. The announcement was made by Kumar Vijay Singh, Chairman of the Bihar State Kabaddi Association.
According to the list released by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India, a total of 29 players from across the country have been invited to attend the camp. The training camp will be held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from 10 June to 9 July 2026. The final Indian team for the Asian Games will be selected based on the players’ performances during this period.
Riya’s selection has brought a wave of excitement across Bihar’s sporting community. With consistently strong performances, she has established herself at the national level and now has a valuable opportunity to secure a place in the Indian team. If selected in the final squad, she will be among the few women kabaddi players from Bihar to represent India at the Asian Games.
The 20th Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October 2026. Kabaddi remains one of India’s strongest sports, and the Indian women’s team is widely regarded as a strong contender for a medal.
Several officials and members of the Bihar kabaddi fraternity have extended their congratulations and best wishes to Riya on her achievement.
