Patna: “Technical education must be directly linked to employment, entrepreneurship and innovation, and we want Bihar children to study and secure jobs within the state itself,” said Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary while chairing a high-level meeting of the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education at the ‘Sankalp Sabhagar’ in the Lok Sevak Awas.
During the meeting, Department Secretary Himanshu Sharma delivered a detailed presentation outlining the academic standards, enrolment, placements, infrastructure, research initiatives and future action plans of the state’s engineering colleges and polytechnic institutions.
The Chief Minister directed that Centres of Excellence be established in all government polytechnic institutes in a phased manner to ensure students receive training aligned with modern technologies and industry requirements. He also called for stronger coordination between technical institutions and science centres and parks across districts, along with the introduction of special programmes to encourage scientific thinking and innovation among students.
He further emphasised the need to produce high-quality videos showcasing institutional achievements, infrastructure, laboratories, placement records and student success stories to attract more students towards technical education.
Choudhary instructed that regular workshops, seminars and expert lectures be organised in all engineering and polytechnic institutions to equip students with industry-relevant skills. He also stressed enhancing collaboration with reputed national and international institutions and industries to provide students with greater industrial exposure.
Highlighting the importance of research and innovation, the Chief Minister called for a dedicated action plan to promote new ideas and scientific research, aiming to position Bihar as a leading state in technical education. He also directed that laboratories be modernised, equipment regularly upgraded, and necessary resources ensured across institutions. Additionally, he emphasised keeping institutional websites and digital platforms updated to provide students with easy access to information online.
Samrat Choudhary also suggested exploring the establishment of dedicated training centres for the capacity building and professional development of technical educators.
The meeting was attended by Science, Technology and Technical Education Minister Sheila Kumari, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, Secretary to the Chief Minister Lokesh Kumar Singh, and other senior officials.
