Patna: With an eye on the 2036 Olympic Games, the Bihar Olympic Association (BOA), following directives from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has announced a major environmental initiative alongside sporting events to mark the upcoming Olympic Day.
As part of the campaign, a statewide tree plantation drive will be conducted in tandem with various sports associations. The initiative aims to plant a total of 2,036 saplings across different districts of Bihar, symbolising the year of the future Olympic Games.
BOA President Ajay Kumar has urged all state sports associations and district Olympic units to actively participate in the campaign. Emphasising the broader purpose of the initiative, BOA Secretary Pradeep Kumar stated that Olympic Day should not only celebrate sports and physical activity but also encourage meaningful steps towards environmental protection and sustainability.
In an official communication, all state sports bodies and district associations have been instructed to organise sporting events on June 23, 2026 while also mobilising local educational institutions, athletes and youth to take part in large-scale plantation activities.
They have further been directed to submit brief reports and photographs of both the sporting events and plantation drives. These will be shared with the Indian Olympic Association to showcase Bihar’s efforts at the national level, setting an example for other states to follow.
