Bihar Government to Monitor Mid-Day Meals Through e-Shiksha Kosh From January 2025

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: The Bihar government’s education department is introducing a significant change in the monitoring of the mid-day meal (MDM) scheme. Starting 1 January 2025, the monitoring process will shift from the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) to the digital platform e-Shiksha Kosh, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

Key Details of the New Monitoring System

  • Transition to e-Shiksha Kosh:
    • The mid-day meal scheme will now be monitored through e-Shiksha Kosh, replacing the previous IVRS system.
    • Vinayak Mishra, Director of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, has instructed all district programme officers to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Daily Data Submission:
    • Schools must input data related to the mid-day meal scheme on the e-Shiksha Kosh platform by 3:30 pm daily.
    • This data will be forwarded to the Government of India by 4 pm and subsequently uploaded to the national web portal.
  • Improved Accuracy:
    • During trials, it was noted that data submitted late often led to discrepancies the following day. The new system aims to address this issue by setting strict timelines for data entry and submission.

Munger Leads in Trial Implementation

  • In Munger district, trials for monitoring MDM through e-Shiksha Kosh have been conducted in 963 out of 969 schools, placing the district second in Bihar for successful implementation.
  • Mo Asgar Ali, the in-charge District Education Officer and Programme Officer for MDM in Munger, confirmed that full-scale monitoring through e-Shiksha Kosh will commence in all schools from 1 January.

This shift to a digital monitoring platform underscores the Bihar government’s commitment to improving transparency and efficiency in the education sector, ensuring timely and accurate implementation of the mid-day meal scheme.
