Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar Enforces Stringent Measures to Improve Police Investigations and Maintain Law and Order

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: Vinay Kumar, the newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar, has introduced stringent measures to enhance accountability at the police station level. The Bihar Police Headquarters has devised a new system to evaluate the performance of Investigating Officers (IOs) handling cases in police stations. Any negligence or delay in case investigations by IOs will now lead to severe consequences, including suspension and stalled promotions.

The DGP has issued specific instructions to ensure improved investigation quality and timely justice for victims.

Increased Accountability for Investigating Officers

The performance of IOs across Bihar’s police stations will now be meticulously evaluated. Officers failing to act promptly or conduct thorough investigations will face strict disciplinary action. Those who compromise on the quality of investigations could be suspended, and their career progression halted.

Purpose Behind the New Directives

The DGP’s directives aim to ensure timely and effective justice for victims by improving the efficiency of investigations. Evaluations will be conducted at three levels, with reports submitted to the headquarters. The DGP emphasised that thorough police investigations are essential for delivering swift justice to victims.

Action Against Criminals Out on Bail

The DGP has also directed officials, including those at the Inspector General (IG), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Superintendent of Police (SP) levels, to take immediate action on nearly two dozen key points. This includes revoking the bail of criminals who continue to engage in illegal activities.

Further, the DGP has instructed districts to expedite the process of attachment and confiscation of property to instil fear among criminals. In preparation for upcoming elections, districts have been asked to update the goonda register.

Focus on Enhanced Patrolling

Officers from Jamadar to SP level have been directed to prioritise patrolling during the day, evening, and night. The DGP also suggested group supervision for similar cases to curb incidents of snatching and theft.

These comprehensive measures reflect the DGP’s commitment to reforming Bihar’s policing system and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
