Patna: Commissioner of Patna Division and Chairman of the Patient Welfare Committee at Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology, Mr Animesh Kumar Parashar, has stated that providing accessible, reliable, high-quality and robust healthcare services to citizens remains the government’s foremost priority.
He was addressing officials during a governing body meeting of the Patient Welfare Committee held at the Commissioner’s office on Monday. The Commissioner noted that the institute is the state’s first hospital under the Health Department dedicated to specialised cardiac care and stands as a unique government-run super-speciality cardiology facility.
He said the institute has been doing commendable work in the interest of patients. Operating from a ten-storey building, the hospital offers modern facilities for the treatment of heart diseases at affordable rates. Emphasising the need to maintain quality standards, he urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant, proactive and committed.

The Commissioner further highlighted that the government’s ‘Seven Resolves’ programme envisions quality healthcare for all, which can only be achieved through an efficient, effective and accountable system.
During the meeting, he reviewed the institute’s ongoing initiatives for patient welfare and assessed recent progress. Members discussed the agenda in detail, including hospital management and operations. Key issues such as availability of medicines and equipment, functioning of OPD and IPD services, attendance of doctors and staff, sanitation and cleanliness were deliberated upon based on proposals presented by the Director-cum-Member Secretary, Dr Sunil Kumar.
The Director informed that under various government schemes — including the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund, Child Heart Scheme, Ayushman Bharat (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana), and the National Child Health Programme — beneficiaries are provided free investigations and treatment for procedures such as pacemaker implantation, BMV, CMV, valve replacement and CABG, among others. Facilities for paediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery have also been upgraded.
Presenting a detailed report for the period from 1 January to 30 April 2026, the Director stated that 38,844 patients received OPD services, while 5,006 were admitted under IPD care. Additionally, 1,31,035 pathology tests and 23,455 ECG examinations were conducted during this period.
The Commissioner observed that a large number of patients and their attendants visit the OPD daily, with approximately 350 to 400 patients attending each day. He expressed satisfaction over the availability of improved facilities and directed the Director to ensure the continued provision of excellent and quality healthcare services for all patients.
