Patna: BJP National President Nitin Nabin has resigned from his post as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Bihar following his election to the Rajya Sabha. He submitted his resignation to state BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi, who in turn handed over the documents to Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar on Monday.
The party stated that Nitin Nabin is currently in Assam, engaged in election campaigning, and therefore could not be present in person.
Nitin Nabin, who represented the Bankipur constituency in Patna, stepped down after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. Confirming the development, Speaker Prem Kumar said the resignation had been received through the state BJP president and had been accepted, with further procedural action initiated.
Earlier, Sanjay Saraogi had indicated that the resignation would be processed promptly, noting that Nabin had already submitted his papers a day prior.
In an emotional message addressed to the people of Bankipur, Nabin described them as his family and reflected on his political journey. He recalled that after the sudden demise of his father, the late Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha, the party gave him an opportunity to contest a by-election from Patna West in 2006, marking the beginning of his public life. Since then, he said, he has worked continuously over the past two decades to nurture and develop the constituency.
He expressed gratitude to the electorate for electing him to the Assembly five consecutive times and said he had consistently raised public concerns both inside and outside the House, striving to resolve issues with the support of party workers and citizens.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Nitin Nabin said their leadership had given him the opportunity to serve as a minister in the Bihar government, enabling him to implement key policies and schemes successfully.
He reiterated that his political journey was shaped by the people and party workers, who guided and supported him like family. Assuring continued commitment, Nabin said he would remain dedicated to the development of Bihar in his new role and maintain his strong connection with the public.
Notably, elections to five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar were held recently, all of which were won by NDA candidates. Nabin was among the BJP nominees elected, alongside Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
As per constitutional provisions, a person elected to the Rajya Sabha must resign from their state legislature seat within 14 days. Following his elevation as BJP’s national president, Nabin is now expected to play a more prominent role in national politics and will soon take oath as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
