Dr Rita Das performs the sarod at the Pandit Siyaram Tiwari Memorial Programme organised by Naad Vistaar. Kolkata’s Surjit Mukherjee accompanied her on the tabla.
Patna: Renowned Bihar sarod artiste Dr Rita Das paid a musical tribute to the great Dhrupad vocalist Pandit Siyaram Tiwari with a performance of Raag Kaushi Kanhra at a Dhrupad evening organised by Naad Vistaar on his death anniversary.
A leading exponent of the Maihar Senia gharana, Rita Das received her initial training in sarod from her father and guru, Prof C L Das. She later received guidance from Ustad Ashish Khan, Pandit Vimalendu Mukherjee and Pandit Sunil Mukherjee. An empanelled artiste with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), she is also an A-grade artiste of All India Radio, Delhi. She concluded her performance with Raag Majh Khamaj. She was accompanied on the tabla by Surjit Mukherjee, a disciple of Pandit Shankar Ghosh of Kolkata, who provided precise accompaniment.
The programme began with a performance of Raag Miyan Malhar by young Dhrupad vocalist Vansh Prabhat. It concluded with Rajendra Sijuar’s rendition of Raag Megh.
On the occasion, the organisation presented the Pandit Siyaram Tiwari Lifetime Achievement Award to senior Kathak guru Dr Rama Das.
The programme was conducted by Namrata Kumari. Asha Pathak, secretary of the organisation, said the event is organised every year to keep alive the legacy of Pandit Siyaram Tiwari.
