Patna: On the occasion of International Olympic Day (June 23), a large-scale plantation drive and a series of sporting competitions were organised across Bihar by Bihar Olympic Association (BOA) in accordance with the directives of the Indian Olympic Association.
Keeping in view the 2036 Olympic Games, the state was assigned a target of planting 2,036 saplings. However, surpassing expectations, the Bihar Olympic Association, in collaboration with various sports bodies and district Olympic associations, planted nearly 4,000 saplings across almost all 38 districts of the state.
The initiative carried a symbolic message — nurturing small plants, much like young athletes, and helping them grow into strong trees, representing international sportspersons. Alongside the plantation drive, various sports competitions were also organised to promote the spirit of sportsmanship on this special occasion.
The main event of the campaign was held at the Sakha Maidan in Patna. Bihar Olympic Association (BOA) President Ajay Kumar and MLA Ratnesh Kushwaha formally inaugurated the mega drive by planting saplings themselves.
On the occasion, Association Secretary Pradeep Kumar also took part in the plantation activity, while Treasurer Mohammad Mukhtar Khan planted saplings near Bhadra Ghat, spreading awareness about environmental conservation.
Officials stated that to ensure the success of the campaign, district Olympic associations and various sports bodies actively participated at the grassroots level across nearly all districts of Bihar. Local athletes and sports enthusiasts played a crucial role in spreading the joint message of sports and environmental awareness to every corner of the state.
The President of the Bihar Olympic Association expressed gratitude to all district Olympic associations and sports bodies for their significant contribution in making the programme a success.
