Patna: “Promote innovation and agricultural technology under the Bihar Agricultural Startup Policy,” said Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary while reviewing the functioning of the Agriculture Department at the ‘Sankalp Sabhagar’ in Lok Sevak Awas on Tuesday (June 23, 2026).
During the meeting, Agriculture Department Principal Secretary Narmadeshwar Lal delivered a detailed presentation on various schemes and programmes related to agricultural production, horticulture development, farm mechanisation, research, processing, and enhancing farmers’ income.
Reviewing the progress, the Chief Minister said that crop production and productivity in the state have increased. He directed officials to expedite efforts to further boost the production of mango, honey and banana. Special initiatives should be undertaken to promote the cultivation of these crops and raise farmers’ earnings. He also stressed the need for better arrangements for processing and marketing agricultural produce so that farmers can derive maximum benefit.
Emphasising efficient governance, he called for the optimal utilisation of manpower to ensure effective implementation of departmental work. He further instructed officials to assess the status of agricultural machinery sales, usage and subsidy distribution to modernise and improve farm productivity.
The Chief Minister underlined the importance of strengthening agricultural extension services at the village level. Farmers should receive timely technical guidance and training, he said, adding that Krishi Vigyan Kendras and other institutions must continue to disseminate information on new technologies. In districts with potential for specific crops, a cluster-based development strategy should be adopted. He also called for an integrated approach to give Bihar’s unique agricultural products recognition in national and international markets.
He further directed that a special campaign be launched to ensure that all eligible farmers benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, with a focus on achieving 100 per cent coverage.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, and other senior officials.
