Patna: A commemorative programme marking the third death anniversary of Savitri Devi, the first Maithili-speaking woman artiste of the Maithili drama division of All India Radio, Patna, was held on Monday. The event featured an engaging blend of songs, poetry and reminiscences, drawing a large gathering of young artistes, poets and litterateurs to the Asavari Auditorium in the city.
The programme commenced with the garlanding of Savitri Devi’s portrait. Opening the session, sarod artiste and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Patliputra University, Rita Das, remarked that remembering Savitri Devi was akin to revisiting the artistic history of Bihar. She noted that while Savitri Devi herself was an accomplished artiste, she also played a significant role in encouraging and promoting other performers.

On the occasion, poet Amalendu Asthana recited several of his compositions dedicated to motherhood, offering a heartfelt tribute. Dr Rekha Das and Dr Rama Das presented the devotional piece “Manwa Re Ram Bhajan Jag Sara,” composed by Brahmanand.

Subsequently, Priyanka, Shreya, Adya, Preeti, Amarnath, Roshan and Sudip, among others, paid musical homage through songs and bhajans.
Among those present at the event were Ashok Priyadarshi, Syamal Das, Dinesh Kumar, Madhu Das and Reena Sopam.
