Temperature Set to Plummet in Bihar with Fog Predicted: Met Department

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: The Meteorological Department has forecast a sharp drop in temperatures across Bihar by 23 November, with the minimum temperature likely to fall to around 13°C. Additionally, foggy conditions are expected from midnight to morning over the next two to three days.

The state has already experienced a noticeable chill over the past two days, with both maximum and minimum temperatures declining. The cold westerly winds have added to the wintry feel, prompting a shift in people’s routines and attire. Until two days ago, residents were still using fans at night, but now blankets and warm sheets have become essential. During mornings and evenings, many can be seen donning light sweaters and shawls, a stark contrast to the recent past when warm clothing was unnecessary.

Health Precautions Advised

Doctors have cautioned residents to take preventive measures to safeguard against health risks posed by the sudden change in weather. According to Dr Girijesh Kumar, formerly of Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) in Patna, the abrupt drop in temperature can strain the human body’s ability to adapt. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with weaker immune systems are particularly at risk.

Dr Kumar further emphasised that heart and high blood pressure (BP) patients should exercise extra caution. He advised such individuals to avoid early morning walks and ensure their bodies are adequately covered before venturing out of bed. “The risk of strokes increases in this weather, particularly among those with high BP or heart conditions,” he warned.

Colder Days Ahead

The Meteorological Department predicts a further decline in temperature in the coming week. With the mercury set to dip significantly, mornings, evenings, and nights are expected to become even chillier. Strong westerly winds and high moisture levels in the atmosphere may also result in persistent fog, adding to the wintry conditions.

Residents are advised to prepare for the intensifying cold and take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy.
