By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: Relief from traffic congestion is on the horizon for commuters traveling from Gandhi Maidan to Gaighat in Patna. A double-decker flyover, currently under construction to accommodate the increasing vehicle pressure on Ashoka Rajpath, is expected to be completed by January 2025. More than half of the construction work has already been finished, according to District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, who recently inspected several ongoing projects in the district.

During his inspection, Dr. Singh reviewed the construction progress of the double-decker flyover, which extends from Kargil Chowk to Patna Science College. He noted that the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited is rapidly advancing the project. Once completed, the flyover, along with the Krishnaghat connecting road, will provide significant relief to students and teachers of Patna University, competitive exam aspirants, patients, doctors, and the general public.

Dr. Singh, accompanied by senior officials, conducted an extensive review of various construction sites and public facilities across the district. Starting from Gandhi Maidan at 10:00 am, the DM inspected areas including Kargil Chowk, the metro construction on Ashok Rajpath, the double-decker flyover, the JP Gangapath-Ashok Rajpath link road at Krishnaghat, PMCH, the Patna Metro Rail Depot in Pahari and Ranipur Mauja, Panchsheel High School in Kumhrar, Rajendra Nagar, Kankarbagh, and Exhibition Road.

The inspection also covered critical aspects related to the livelihood of citizens, including encroachment, traffic management, and changes in the Ganga’s water level. Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh spent about three hours evaluating these areas.

This mega project, with a budget of Rs 422 crore, had its foundation stone laid in September 2021. Once completed, the flyover will provide a direct route from Gandhi Maidan to PMCH, with one arm of the flyover connecting directly to the PMCH campus. This will be the second double-decker flyover in Bihar, with another currently under construction in Chapra.
