Patna: The biggest-ever Bihar Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament will be held from 25 to 29 March at the indoor stadium of Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna.
Sharing this information, Director General-cum-Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), Mr Raveendran Sankaran, said that this edition would be the largest chess rating tournament ever organised in the state. More than 650 players from India and abroad are set to participate in the competition.
The tournament will feature boys’ and girls’ categories in Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 age groups, along with an open category. A total prize pool of ₹10 lakh will be awarded in cash. Winners across various categories will receive medals and trophies, while all participants will be given certificates.
The sports authority has made comprehensive arrangements for the accommodation and meals of the players.
A key highlight of the event is the participation of leading international players from countries including Zimbabwe, Nepal and Russia, alongside competitors from across India.
Secretary of the Bihar Chess Association, Mr Dharmendra Kumar, said that matches will commence daily at 9 am and continue until the evening. He added that the participation of international players in this year’s rating tournament is a matter of pride for the state.
Notable participants include Zimbabwe’s International Master Mamombe Kudzanai, Nepal’s national champion Rupesh Jaiswal, Russia’s Grandmaster Petr Kiriakov, and India’s Grandmaster Narayanan Srinath.
The tournament is being organised with coordinated efforts by the Sports Department, Bihar State Sports Authority and the All Bihar Chess Association to ensure smooth conduct and adequate facilities for players.
