Patna: A shocking case involving the abduction of a minor girl and an illegal surgical procedure has come to light in Patna. The family of the minor had lodged a complaint with the police on 3 March regarding her kidnapping from the Gardanibagh police station area. Acting promptly, the police registered a case and launched an investigation, eventually rescuing the victim safely using technical and human intelligence inputs.
During the probe, it emerged that the victim was in a relationship with a young man and had become pregnant. After learning about the pregnancy, the accused, along with his mother, allegedly conspired to take the girl to a private clinic in Patna where an illegal surgery was performed. The operation was reportedly conducted not by a qualified gynaecologist but by a surgeon, which is legally impermissible.
Police investigations revealed that there was no entry related to the procedure in the clinic’s register and no valid documents were produced. The clinic operator was also found to have played a role in the incident. During the surgery, the victim gave birth to a newborn baby girl. However, the accused youth and his mother allegedly planned to abandon the child.
The clinic operator reportedly hid the newborn and began plotting to sell the baby. No information regarding the birth or the incident was shared with the police or any administrative authority. Upon receiving information about the matter, the Patna police conducted a raid at the clinic and safely rescued the newborn. The infant was immediately handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Police have arrested the main accused, his mother and the clinic operator. All three have been sent to judicial custody. During the arrests, the police recovered two mobile phones, a clinic slip, a diary and the victim’s blood test report from the accused.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Secretariat-1) Dr Annu Kumari said that action is also being taken against the surgeon who carried out the procedure and others involved in the case. Letters have been sent to the Patna District Magistrate and the Civil Surgeon seeking necessary legal action against the clinic.
“The police are investigating the matter seriously and further action will follow,” she added.
