Lalan Prasad Files Nomination for Bihar Legislative Council Seat, Backed by NDA and JD(U)

By Neeraj Kumar
Patna: NDA-supported Janata Dal (United) candidate Lalan Prasad filed his nomination for the vacant seat in the Bihar Legislative Council today. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and several leaders of NDA constituent parties were present during the nomination filing.

The seat became vacant on 9th January following the cancellation of RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh’s membership. His term was originally set to end in 2026, but the Legislative Council Ethics Committee terminated his membership last year.

Lalan Prasad, a resident of Sujawalpur village in Sheikhpura district, belongs to the Dhanuk community and represents the extremely backward class. He has been closely associated with Nitish Kumar since the days of the Samata Party in 1994.

After filing his nomination, Lalan Prasad expressed gratitude to the party leadership, calling the opportunity a significant responsibility. He reminisced about his long-standing association with Nitish Kumar, stating, “We used to put up posters and carry flags for Nitish Kumar. He is our ideal. We have been working for his vision of development since 1994.”

Prasad emphasised that his priority as a member of the Legislative Council would be to bring Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development initiatives to the people and work for the progress of the region.

With the NDA enjoying the support of 131 MLAs in the Bihar Assembly, Lalan Prasad is poised to secure the seat uncontested if elections are required.

The seat was vacated after the cancellation of Sunil Kumar Singh’s membership due to ethical violations. The last date for withdrawal of nominations for this seat is 16th January.
