Patna, May 23, 2024: On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, Patna cricket witnessed a historic milestone as the Patna District Cricket Association, founded in 1972, inaugurated the District Women’s Cricket League. The league’s commencement was graced by Patna District Cricket Association Steering Committee President Rajesh Kumar and member Rahbar Abdin.

The inaugural match took place at the Bihar Cricket Academy Ground, located on the La Martiniere World School campus in Sampatchak. Uma Eleven triumphed over Abdin Eleven by five wickets.

Ashutosh Kumar, Women’s League Convenor, welcomed the esteemed guests. Dhananjay Kumar Singh, President of the Patna District Senior and Junior Cricket League Committee, efficiently managed the stage proceedings.

Uma Eleven Win by Five Wickets

In the opening match, Uma Eleven’s captain, Swarnima Chakraborty, won the toss and opted to field first. Abdin Eleven posted a total of 141 runs for 8 wickets in 25 overs. Key contributions came from Saloni Kumari with 37 runs and Khushmanda Mangali with 28 runs. Ritika Raj remained unbeaten with 15 runs.

For Uma Eleven, Sangeeta took 2 wickets for 32 runs, Dolly took 1 wicket for 11 runs, and Geetanjali took 2 wickets for 26 runs.

Chasing 142 runs, Uma Eleven reached their target in 21 overs, losing 5 wickets. Geetanjali led the scoring with an unbeaten 39 runs, supported by Soni Kumari with 25 runs and Dolly with 22 runs. Extras added a crucial 30 runs to the total. Pooja Kumari and Sonia Raj from Abdin Eleven took 2 wickets for 23 runs and 1 wicket for 24 runs respectively.

Geetanjali was named the Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
