Patna: Russian Grandmaster Petr Kiriakov played simultaneous chess matches against 36 young players from Bihar at the indoor stadium of the Pataliputra Sports Complex on Monday.
The exhibition saw budding talents from across the state challenge the seasoned Grandmaster in a spirited contest. After nearly three hours of intense play, three players managed to hold Kiriakov to a draw.
On the occasion, Raveendran Sankaran, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, attended the event and encouraged the participants to strive for better performances.
At the conclusion of the matches, all participants were presented with certificates signed by the Grandmaster. The three players who secured draws — Kumar Srijan of Patna, Abhijeet Kumar of Bhagalpur, and Abhimanyu Kumar of Patna — were felicitated by Grandmaster Kiriakov and Dharmendra Kumar, Secretary of the All Bihar Chess Association.
