Patna: Gaya athletes made a strong start on the opening day of the Bihar State Inter-District School Boys Under-17 Athletics Championship, securing two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal to lead the medal tally.
The first gold of the four-day event, organised by the District Administration, Patna, in collaboration with the Sports Department, Bihar, and Bihar State Sports Authority, was claimed by Rajan Raj of Vaishali. He won the 1500-metre race with a time of 4:03:41. Rohit Kumar of Gaya followed closely, winning silver with a time of 4:04:15, while Roshan Kumar, also of Gaya, took bronze with a time of 4:07:92.
In the shot put event, Dev Raj from Gaya earned the title of “Iron Boy” by throwing a distance of 13.50 metres, securing the gold medal. Raunak Raj from Sheikhpura won silver with a throw of 11.98 metres, and Riyaz Qureshi of Rohtas claimed bronze with a throw of 11.96 metres.
Gaya’s dominance continued in the triple jump event, where Prem Raj leapt 14.05 metres to win gold. Ayush Kumar from Siwan took silver with a jump of 13.40 metres, and Pradeep Kumar secured bronze with a jump of 13.20 metres.
