The 9th convocation of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour was held on Friday in Bhagalpur.

Bhagalpur: The 9th convocation of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour was held on Friday amidst gaiety and fanfare. The Ph. D, masters and bachelors degrees were given to successful research scholars and students on the occasion.
Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), Bihar Governor cum Chancellor of Universities was chief guest on the occasion. In his convocation address, the chancellor referring to the students said they are silent architects having a major role in nation building.
Acknowledging BAU has been contributing significantly in field of research, education and extension, the chancellor said the university has all required potentials of becoming Centre of Excellence.
The chancellor who was of the opinion that goal of “Viksit Bharat (Developed India)” could be achieved by “Samridh Krishi (Prosperous Agriculture)” said agriculture university having vital role in ensuring food security of nation could contribute significantly in achieving goal of developed India through prosperous agriculture.
Expressing concern over adverse effects of climatic changes on agriculture the chancellor laid stress on maintaining agricultural productivity. In course of address, he asked students to keep away from intoxicants.

The chancellor further said there should be collective efforts to keep campus free of plastics. He also led stress on need of collective effort to ensure Bihar becomes tuberculosis free state of country.
Earlier on his arrival at venue of convocation the chancellor was welcomed by Dr D R Singh, Vice Chancellor (VC), BAU. In his welcome address the VC spoke about the achievements of university in field of education, research and extension activities.
The VC subsequently administered oath to the students for dedicating their lives in service of nation and society. At convocation function chancellor gave Ph.D degrees to research scholars who had successfully completed their research work.

At Ph.D level gold medal was awarded to a research scholar. Total six students received gold medals at undergraduate/postgraduate levels for their outstanding academic performance.
The best thesis award went to Dr Devojit Chakrborty while Dr Sweta Shyamali, assistant professor in department of soil science was given best teacher award on the occasion. As per information more four hundred students received degrees at convocation function today.
Several projects and new initiatives of university were inaugurated and unveiled by chancellor during his visit. Newly constructed swimming pool besides water bottling unit, fruit flavoured beverage and Samarth portal were inaugurated by chancellor.

He unveiled an AI based film bearing title Agriculture Knowledge and Research – A New Identity of Bihar besides Agri-Glams App on the occasion. The dignitaries present on the occasion included Ajay Mandal, MP, Bhagalpur beside Dr Vivekanand Singh, VC, Purnia University.
