Excise Team Attacked by Smugglers During Raid in Digha, Smuggler Escapes

Patna: The excise team was attacked by smugglers during a raid near the slums along the ghat area of Marine Drive, under the Digha police station jurisdiction. A crowd gathered, pelting stones at the team and managing to free the smuggler who had been apprehended with liquor, taking him from the excise police vehicle before fleeing. Upon receiving information about the incident, officers from the Digha police station arrived at the scene. The Digha police station in-charge later reported that the smuggler, identified as Raju Kumar, was apprehended in Patel Nagar.

Excise constable Anuj Kumar sustained serious injuries in the attack, and several other policemen were also hurt. The vehicle’s glass windows were shattered in the stone pelting.

According to sources, the excise team received a tip-off about illegal liquor sales taking place in the slums and shops near Marine Drive. Acting on this information, the excise police formed a team, conducted the raid, and arrested a smuggler with 12 tetra packs of liquor. However, as they attempted to take him away, a group of unidentified individuals attacked, pelting stones, opening the vehicle door, and freeing the smuggler. During the altercation, the liquor mafia also clashed with the police, resulting in injuries to several individuals.
