Patna: Extensive security arrangements have been implemented for the large influx of devotees expected to bathe in the Ganga on Kartik Purnima, 15 November. To ensure safety, the operation of boats on the Ganga and other rivers will be suspended on 14 and 15 November. Three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be stationed from Digha Ghat to Gaighat, equipped with motorboats, divers, and other necessary resources. In addition to Ganga Ghats, 500 magistrates and 1,500 police officers will be deployed across the district.
Patna District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh noted that devotees often begin gathering at river ghats a day or two before Kartik Purnima, leading to substantial crowds. All SDOs, SDPOs, COs, and other officials have been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared to handle any potential disaster situations. They have been asked to ensure robust administrative preparedness in line with disaster management standards.
Civil Defence volunteers will also be stationed along the ghats, with all COs directed to arrange for boats, sailors, and divers from 14 to 15 November. The Deputy Controller of Civil Defence will oversee the deployment of these volunteers. Additionally, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) will provide one tanker of drinking water and temporary toilet facilities at all major ghats. A fire response team will be stationed at key locations, including Digha Patipul Ghat, Kali Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Gai Ghat, and Bhadra Ghat.
