Patna: Bihar’s talented young cricketers are set to get a new platform and an opportunity to make a mark with the launch of the Salute Tiranga Cricket League (STCL). The league aims not only to provide recognition to promising players but also to ease their financial burden.
STCL chairman Rajesh Jha outlined several key features of the league.
Free selection trial registration
Selection trials have been organised across the state to provide a major platform to undiscovered talent. The trials will be held on September 2 and 3, 2026, at Jagjivan Ram Railway Cricket Stadium. Registration for the selection trials will be free.
Live broadcast on satellite TV and digital platforms
STCL vice-chairman Ravi Chikara said eight teams would participate in the league after being selected through the trials. Each team will have the opportunity to play three league matches. All matches will be broadcast live on television. Talks are currently under way with Sony LIV and DD Sports for the live telecast.
League to bear all expenses of selected players
STCL director Mukesh Singh said the league would be played at Miraj International Stadium in Udaipur. STCL will bear all expenses for selected players, including AC train travel from their homes to the stadium and their return journey. The organisation will also provide accommodation and food for the players in Udaipur.
Financial assistance for players
All selected players will receive ₹25,000 in cash as match fees. Each Man of the Match will receive ₹21,000, while the Best Batter and Best Bowler will also be awarded ₹21,000 each. The Player of the Series will receive a cash prize of ₹51,000.
The winning team will receive ₹15 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹10 lakh.
The league aims to help participating players progress to the national level. Several former and prominent cricketers, including Chetan Sharma, Ashok Malhotra, Madan Lal and Saba Karim, have extended their support to the initiative.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Delhi, league commissioner Chetan Sharma said the league would provide emerging players with a better platform to showcase their talent.
Speaking to reporters, former cricketer Ashok Malhotra said the league would also provide financial support to promising young players selected for the competition.
STCL official Ganesh Dutt said the initiative would prove to be a milestone for talented cricketers looking for a better platform to develop their careers.
