Bihar State Under-13 Chess Championship begins in Katihar.
Patna: The Bihar State Under-13 Chess Championship commenced today at Agrasen Bhawan in Moffarganj, Katihar. The tournament is being organised by the Katihar District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association.
The event was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, Mrs Usha Devi Agrawal, Mayor of Katihar, who lit the ceremonial lamp. Among those present on the occasion were special guest Sanjeev Surekha, Dr Shambhu Nath, Vice-President of the Katihar District Chess Association, Geet Avinash, Organising Secretary Pratyush Kumar, and Chief Arbiter Nandkishore.
Around 100 players from across the state are participating in the competition. In the boys’ category, 69 players are competing, including 19 rated players. The girls’ category features 30 participants, including seven rated players.
The girls’ section will be played over six rounds, while the boys’ section will have seven rounds. Following the completion of the first round, most of the top-seeded players secured victories in their respective matches.
In the boys’ category, top seed Devansh Keshri, along with other seeded players, won their opening games. In the girls’ category, rated players such as Dhanvi Karmakar, Mohini Pandit, Anika Yadav, Aaradhya Prakash, Raj Shri, and Sanvi also registered wins.
However, the round witnessed a notable upset when fourth-seeded rated player Manisha Yadav from Darbhanga was defeated by Navya Aakriti of Purnia, who played with the white pieces.
