Patna: In the presence of Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the Road Construction Department and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for long-term financing worth ₹21,000 crore to strengthen road and bridge infrastructure across the state.
The agreement was signed at the ‘Sankalp’ auditorium in the Lok Sevak Awas complex by Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal and NABARD Chairman Shaji K.V.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said NABARD had been playing a significant role in Bihar’s development and expressed confidence that the institution would continue extending its support in the future. He said the state government was consistently working to strengthen road and bridge infrastructure, and the agreement would ensure the availability of financial resources, particularly for the construction of roads and bridges in rural areas, thereby accelerating development projects.
Choudhary said quality roads and bridges were essential for the state’s overall development. Improved rural road connectivity, he added, would make travel easier for people while also promoting economic activity. The long-term funding of ₹21,000 crore would further strengthen financial arrangements for implementing road and bridge projects across Bihar.
NABARD Chairman Shaji K.V. said Bihar was progressing rapidly and assured that the bank would provide every possible support required for the state’s development. He reaffirmed NABARD’s commitment to continuing its partnership in strengthening Bihar’s infrastructure.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also released the booklet titled “NABARD in Bihar”.
The event also recognised outstanding contributions to Bihar’s traditional arts and crafts. GI certificates were presented to Sanjeev Sinha of Bhojpur for Pidiya Painting, Ravindra Nath Gaur of Gaya for Patharkatti stone craft, and Suresh Dev of Nalanda for the renowned Bawan Buti textile art.
Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, along with senior officials of NABARD and the Bihar government, were present at the ceremony.
