Patna: In a joint initiative by the state’s Agriculture Department and the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, the Bihar government will launch a special campaign to create a comprehensive farmer registry aimed at ensuring digital identity for cultivators across the state.
Announcing the initiative, Bihar Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said the campaign will be conducted from 12 May to 30 June 2026. The drive will be formally launched at the Agriculture Bhawan auditorium in Mithapur, where farmers from Phulwari Sharif block in Patna district will begin receiving their Farmer IDs.
Mr Sinha stated that in earlier mission-mode phases carried out in January and February, a substantial number of Farmer IDs had already been generated. Between 6 and 11 January, over 1.01 million farmers were registered, followed by 715,096 registrations from 17 to 21 January. In the third phase, held from 2 to 11 February, more than 1.03 million Farmer IDs were created. Altogether, 2.76 million Farmer IDs were generated during these drives, taking the total number of registered farmers in the state to 4.78 million so far.
Describing the initiative as a “revolutionary step”, the minister said it aims to connect farmers with modern technology and enhance transparency in the implementation of government schemes. “Through the farmer registry, each farmer will be provided with a unique Farmer ID. This will not only ensure access to schemes such as PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, but will also simplify the process of availing crop insurance, Kisan Credit Cards and financial assistance,” he said.
Mr Sinha added that the registration process is straightforward, requiring only an Aadhaar card, a mobile number and land record details registered in the farmer’s name. Farmers can complete the process themselves via the Bihar Farmer Registry portal or by scanning a QR code. Alternatively, they may seek assistance at the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or contact agriculture coordinators or farmer advisors at the panchayat level.
Once the digital identity is created, farmers will no longer need to repeatedly submit documents. Compensation for crop losses and benefits under government schemes will be transferred directly to their bank accounts without delay.
The minister urged all farmers in the state to complete their registration during the campaign period, noting that a digital Farmer ID will be mandatory for continued benefits under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
For assistance, farmers can contact the Agriculture Department helpline at 18001801551 or the Revenue and Land Reforms Department helpline at 18003456215.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department Narmadeshwar Lal and Agriculture Director Saurabh Suman Yadav, were present at the meeting.
