Patna: The Bihar Home Guard Corps celebrated its 78th Foundation Day with a grand programme held at the Central Training Academy in Anandpur village, Bihta. The event featured a significant announcement by Shobha Ahotkar, Director General of the Bihar Home Guard Corps and Fire Department, who revealed plans to form the state’s first women’s battalion within the Home Guard.
Highlighting the progress made by the department, Ahotkar stated, “We have elevated the Bihar Home Guard to new heights with a strong emphasis on training. The training provided to our personnel is now recognised not only at the state level but also nationally. Jawans are being sent to the Fire Service Training Institute (FSTI) in Hyderabad and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for advanced training. With the addition of new battalions, women will also play a key role in the future.”
The Foundation Day celebrations featured a parade led by the Chief Home Guards and a cultural programme by schoolgirls from the Home Guard Centre in Bihta. A commendable performance by Bihar Home Guard commandos added to the day’s highlights. Senior officers, including IG M. Sunil Kumar Nayak and DIG Md Farooquddin, graced the occasion alongside other departmental officials.
The Bihar Home Guard Corps, established on 6th December 1947, has significantly evolved over the past 78 years. Ahotkar noted that the department has seen substantial improvement in both training and operational capacity, with the Bihar government placing special focus on its development. For the past four to five years, Home Guard personnel have been trained by Army professionals, further enhancing their capabilities.
The DG also shared that Bihar Home Guard now provides commando-style training for both male and female personnel, further strengthening its role in state and national security. She extended her congratulations to the team on their remarkable progress over the years.
