Patna: The government has introduced advanced measures to prevent road accidents in Bihar. Ultra-modern vehicles equipped with 4D speed radar and cameras will now patrol the National Highways (NH) with the highest accident rates in the state, issuing automatic e-challans for traffic violations. These vehicles will also carry emergency equipment, including gas cutting machines, traffic cones, and foldable stretchers, and will patrol every 50 km.
According to information from the Police Headquarters, four NHs with the highest accident rates have been prioritized in the first phase: NH-28 (Chhapra-Bettiah-Lauria-Bagaha), NH-30 (Patna-Bakhtiyarpur), NH-31 (Barauni-Muzaffarpur-Piprakothi), and NH-57 (Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga-Purnia). A total of 23 highway patrol vehicles will monitor 1125 km across these highways, connected to Dial-112 for rapid response in case of accidents. Additionally, 1560 personnel have been approved under the Highway Patrol Scheme to enhance safety on these routes.
The government has also allocated 56 new vehicles to improve the traffic system within Patna city. These vehicles have been distributed to 28 newly formed traffic police stations, with each station receiving two vehicles—one for the traffic police station and one for the DSP Traffic. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure adequate infrastructure for the traffic police and improve road safety.
