Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary launches ‘Screening and Treatment – Healthcare at Your Doorstep’ campaign

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) launched the ‘Screening and Treatment – Healthcare at Your Doorstep’ campaign at the Urja Auditorium in Rajvanshi Nagar, Patna. He also flagged off awareness vans for all 38 districts of the state. The campaign will run from September 2 to November 30, 2026.

Addressing the gathering, Choudhary congratulated the Health Department for launching the initiative and said the campaign aims to ensure timely detection and treatment of diseases rather than waiting for them to become serious.

“Get yourself screened so that you do not fall ill. Timely detection of a disease is essential for proper and effective treatment,” he said.

Under the campaign, citizens aged above 30 will be screened for diabetes, hypertension, common cancers, heart disease, respiratory and lung disorders, and fatty liver disease. Health workers will conduct preliminary examinations and provide consultations at people’s homes. Those requiring further treatment will be referred to Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, district hospitals and other appropriate healthcare facilities.

The Chief Minister said healthcare services in Bihar were being strengthened continuously. Referrals from hospitals had declined, while the number of surgeries at district hospitals had increased. He said the number of operations had risen from 2,428 in June to more than 8,000 this month.

He said that surgeries for 36 types of diseases were earlier being performed at district and sub-divisional hospitals, but the number had now increased to 45, enabling patients to receive better treatment closer to home.

Samrat Choudhary said a separate anaemia screening campaign was also under way, with a target of screening one crore people. The state also aims to screen six crore people and prepare their health records. These records will be stored digitally and used effectively for treatment whenever required.

“A healthy family will be a prosperous family, and a prosperous family will make the state prosperous,” Choudhary said, stressing that the health of children, youth, women and all family members was essential to achieving the vision of a developed India and a prosperous Bihar.

He appealed to citizens to actively participate in the campaign and ensure that all family members above the age of 30 undergo health screening.

Samrat Choudhary also said human resources in the healthcare sector were being strengthened. Students at nursing and paramedical colleges would be provided training in foreign languages to improve their training and employment opportunities in India and abroad.

He announced that ‘Mission Kayakalp’ would be introduced to strengthen primary healthcare services. The initiative would focus on improving facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Additional Primary Health Centres (APHCs) and sub-centres so that people could access quality healthcare closer to home.

Choudhary said the government’s objective was to ensure timely screening, timely treatment and better healthcare facilities for the people of Bihar. He urged citizens to cooperate in making the campaign successful and directed district magistrates to closely monitor its implementation.

Health Secretary Kumar Ravi welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting him with a sapling. A short film based on the ‘Screening and Treatment – Healthcare at Your Doorstep’ campaign was also screened during the programme.

Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Health Minister Nishant Kumar and Health Department Secretary Kumar Ravi also addressed the gathering.

Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, Chief Minister’s Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, State Health Society Managing Director Amit Kumar Pandey and other senior officials were present. MPs, MLAs, MLCs, public representatives, district magistrates, doctors, nurses, ASHA workers and other dignitaries participated through videoconferencing.
