Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed multi-storey parking facility (Multi-Modal Hub) near GPO, Patna, and the underground pedestrian subway connecting it to Patna Junction. He unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbon to mark the opening and also remotely flagged off the operation of buses and passenger vehicles from the Multi-Modal Hub.
Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the new underground pedestrian path. He reviewed facilities such as travellators, escalators, and lifts, and discussed connectivity and passenger amenities with officials.
Speaking to the media, Nitish Kumar said the project would ease congestion around Patna Junction and improve the city’s public transport system. The subway, constructed to link the Multi-Modal Hub near GPO Golambar with Patna Junction, is designed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian convenience in the area.
“This development will provide great relief to pedestrians travelling to and from Patna Junction. We had reviewed this project several times in the past and ensured its timely and well-organised completion,” the Chief Minister said.
Constructed at a cost of ₹84.83 crore by the Urban Development and Housing Department, the 440-metre-long subway begins near Patna Junction and extends up to GPO Golambar. Alongside, a multi-storey parking complex worth ₹66.81 crore has been built near GPO, with dedicated parking for buses, autos, taxis, and private vehicles.
Commuters arriving at the parking hub from different parts of Patna can now reach Patna Junction via the underground subway, which features automated travellators, two lifts, two escalators, and full-length air conditioning. An additional entry/exit point has been created near Buddha Smriti Park, and plans are underway to link the subway to the upcoming Patna Metro station.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar, MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, MLC Neeraj Kumar, MLC Ravindra Prasad Singh, Patna Mayor Smt.
