Bihar State Under-9 Chess Championship is in progress in Patna.

Patna: Aryan Kumar of Purnia has surged ahead as the sole leader in the boys’ category of the Bihar State Under-9 Chess Championship, which began on April 30, 2026, at Pleasant Valley School in Sandalpur, Patna.
After the completion of four rounds, Aryan has maintained a perfect score of four points. In the fourth round, playing with the black pieces on the top board, the top seed defeated Vaibhav Anand of Lakhisarai to extend his lead. Meanwhile, the match between Parth Kumar of Muzaffarpur and Kiyan Shresth of Vaishali, both on three points, ended in a draw on board two. As a result, Aryan emerged as the only player with four points at the top. He is set to face Parth Kumar in the next round on Friday morning.
In the girls’ category, a three-way tie has emerged at the top after three rounds. Kiara Golecha of Purnia, Disha Kumari of Muzaffarpur, and Vanshika Maheshwari of Patna are jointly leading with three points each.

Top seed and the only FIDE-rated player in the girls’ section, Disha Kumari, secured a crucial win against Aakriti Navya of Purnia on the top board to maintain her position. On boards two and three, Vanshika Maheshwari and Kiara Golecha defeated Aparna and Shreya Komalam respectively, joining the leading pack with three points.
Two rounds are scheduled to be played in both categories on Saturday, following which the prize distribution ceremony will be held.
