Arpita Singh jumps into lead in girls’ section at Sarat Jain Memorial Bihar State Sub-Junior Chess Championship

Patna: After five rounds of the Sarat Jain Memorial Bihar State Sub-Junior Chess Championship, organised by the Bhojpur District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association, Arpita Singh from Bhojpur is leading the girls’ category, while Pratyush Kumar, Avyay Sharma (both from Patna), and Tejas Shandilya from Muzaffarpur are tied at the top in the boys’ category with five points each.

The championship, taking place at Maina Sundar Dharamshala in Ara, saw Pratyush Kumar of Patna defeat Kartikeya Nandan of Patna on the first board using white pieces in today’s fifth-round match. Tejas Shandilya of Muzaffarpur overcame Rairath Vats of Patna on the second board, while Avyay Sharma of Patna claimed victory against Jayesh Mishra of Darbhanga on the third board. With these results, the trio share the top spot with five points. Meanwhile, Ayush Kumar of Kishanganj and Agastya Mittal of Patna are close behind in second place, both with 4.5 points.

In the girls’ category, top-seeded Arpita Singh of Bhojpur maintained her lead by defeating Kritika Ranjan of Patna with white pieces on the top board. Second-seeded Aadya from Muzaffarpur, playing with black pieces, secured the second position by defeating Manisha Yadav of Darbhanga. Kritika Ranjan, Shalini Shrivastava (both from Patna), Navya Goenka (Muzaffarpur), and Simran Kumari (Bhojpur) are jointly placed in third with four points each.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow, with two more rounds scheduled in the boys’ category and one in the girls’. The prize distribution ceremony will take place at 3 pm.
