Patna: The double-decker bus operating on the JP Ganga Path is no longer just a sightseeing attraction. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation has now opened the service for private bookings, allowing city residents to hire the bus for special occasions while enjoying a leisurely ride along the Ganga.
Under the new arrangement, the bus can be booked per trip for a duration of around one-and-a-half hours at a fixed charge of ₹4,000 per trip, covering the entire bus. This means all seats are reserved exclusively for the booking group, making it an attractive option for birthday celebrations, family get-togethers and small parties with friends.
The double-decker bus runs between Digha Ghat and Kangan Ghat. The upper deck offers a 360-degree view of the Ganga, open air seating and panoramic views of the JP Ganga Path, adding to its appeal. Operating from 5 pm to 10 pm, the bus ride during sunset provides passengers with a memorable experience along the riverfront.
The bus has a total seating capacity of 40. The lower deck is equipped with 20 air-conditioned seats, while the upper deck has 20 open seats. For passenger convenience, the bus is fitted with a toilet, a refrigerator and a trained guide. The guide provides information about key landmarks along the route, including Digha Ghat, JP Ganga Path Golambar, Sabhyata Dwar, Darbhanga House, Gandhi Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Chitragupt Temple and Kangan Ghat.
For those not opting for private bookings, the service continues to be available for regular sightseeing. On normal days, the one-way fare is ₹50 per person, while the return fare is ₹100, offering an affordable way to enjoy the riverfront and view the city from a fresh perspective.
The initiative is expected to give a new identity to urban tourism in Patna, attract young people as well as families, and emerge as a popular new selfie point in the city.
