Patna: Vehicle owners in Bihar will no longer have to run from one office to another to get wrongly issued traffic challans corrected. The Transport Department has launched a new online grievance facility for the cancellation and correction of erroneous e-challans, bringing much-needed relief to motorists.
The service has been made available on echallan.parivahan.gov.in, and the department has issued necessary instructions to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to ensure its smooth implementation.
Relief from Office Visits
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said a large number of complaints were being received from motorists regarding incorrect challans, and resolving them often took time, forcing people to make repeated visits to offices. To address this problem, an online grievance system has now been introduced.
At present, applications will be accepted both online and offline. However, the department plans to move towards a completely online process in the near future.

Under the new system, applicants can file complaints related to incorrect e-challans from their homes using a mobile phone or computer. Required documents such as the vehicle registration details, photographs of the vehicle and a copy of the challan must be uploaded on the portal. Applicants will also be able to track the status of their complaint online, reducing the need for repeated follow-ups with officials.
Time-Bound Disposal Assured
The Transport Department has directed district transport offices, traffic police and enforcement units to examine online complaints on priority. Cases related to cancellation of erroneous challans will be forwarded to the State Transport Commissioner as per the standard operating procedure, while matters involving corrections will be sent to the concerned District Transport Officer.

The department has made it clear that all actions will be completed within the prescribed time limit.
A Step Towards Digital Governance
Raj Kumar said the new online system would provide significant relief to the public. Motorists facing issues due to wrong challans will no longer have to deal with complex procedures or long waiting periods. Complaints will be resolved faster, saving both time and effort.
He added that the initiative is an important step towards digital governance and will make the department’s functioning more transparent and accountable.
Appeal to Motorists
The Transport Department has urged vehicle owners to use the online grievance facility instead of crowding offices for issues related to wrong challans. It has also appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules, wear helmets and seat belts, and cooperate in strengthening road safety.
With the launch of this service, public confidence in the e-challan system is expected to improve, while also paving the way for further digitisation of related services.
