Bhagalpur, May 20: Bhagalpur police, in collaboration with Bypass Police Station, apprehended eight members of an active interstate gang of thieves last Sunday, along with recovered stolen items. The involvement of these arrested individuals in theft cases in Sahebganj, Jharkhand, has linked them to an interstate criminal network. Seven of the arrested individuals are from Bhagalpur district, while one hails from the adjacent Munger district.
DSP (Law & Order) Chandrabhushan provided details of the arrests during a press briefing held yesterday evening. Acting on intelligence regarding criminal activity at an orchard near Bypass dhaba, a police team led by SP City, constituted by SSP Anand Kumar, conducted a raid resulting in the apprehension of the suspects.
The arrested criminals are identified as Basuki Bhagat and Mannu Sah from Bypass Police Station area, Md Kale, Md Tabrez, and Md Sahbaz alias Chotu from Mustafapur locality, Ranjit Sao and Arvind Kumar from Tamouni village, and Sanjay Choudhury from Sungathia village in Munger district.
Recovered items include three motorcycles, a laptop, a LED, 691.6 grams of silver ornaments, seven mobile phones, an iron pipe, a cutter, and various items of clothing.
DSP Chandrabhushan stated that some of the arrested individuals confessed to their involvement in thefts in Sahebganj. Local police have reached out to authorities in Sahebganj for further details regarding these incidents.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend remaining members of the interstate gang of thieves by local law enforcement agencies.
